Movie and song

So, I saw "Pirates of the Caribbean" this afternoon, with bodnej. A good time was had...quite a fun movie. There's a throwaway line, by the lead female character to Johnny Depp, about rum being bad for you.

Well, this sparked a thought in my brain, because I'm a fan of the Chad Mitchell Trio. They were a folk group, and didn't take themselves too seriously. I recently re-acquired their live album, "Mighty Day on Campus" and had burned it to MP3. There's a track on it, "Rum by Gum", that I wanted to share with Jon. It's "the song of the Temperance Union". Durned if I can figure out where it went on my computer. It might have become lost when I tried to clean up my C: drive. Failing that, my brother might have nuked it when he played on my computer. (I don't think so, despite his natural proclivities.)

So...anyone recommend burning software so I can send it to him? Looks like what I have doesn't work any more. :(

Uh, Seth?
You can always send it to this "Jon" person by doing a file transfer over AIM, you know. I'm told you and "Jon" IM occasionally.

;-)

Seriously, it'd probably take about 30 minutes to do, but it'd be infinitely easier than burning one song and mailing it to me--er, "Jon." ;-)

Re: Uh, Seth?
Help, help, I'm being impersonated!

The best way to transfer files to me is by carrier pigeon. Use white pigeons for the zeros and black pigeons for the ones. Or train them to sing the song. Whichever is easiest for you; I'm a simple man.

Re: Uh, Seth?
All right Seth, which Jon were you talking about? Enquiring Jons want to know!

Re: Uh, Seth?
Jon Bodner, not Jon Miller. But knowing that Jon Miller has interest in folk, by golly, once I figure out how to MP3ify this darn track again, I can send it to you both.

Well, that won't work at all
You know if I send you several million carrier pigeons it will seriously devalue your property value. And I wouldn't do that in the first place, because Lila would die of exhaustion trying to return them all to me. And I wouldn't do that to her. She doesn't deserve that kind of abuse...unlike you. :)

Hrm, no carrier pigeons. Well, that's no fun.

How about gnus? Tapirs? Bumblebees?

Bah. I guess I'll just have to record it from you the next time I'm at your house for a non-Shabbos-y reason. My MP3 player can do some neat tricks, like record via line-in. Just plug it into your stereo while you play the song, and I'll have a copy.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic...because I think it's cool. But my taste in cool isn't exactly mainstream.

It's a very good movie. My wife was chuckling and looking at me when Depp was trying to get his mind around the concept that all of the rum was gone...

I've only heard one song by the Chad Mitchell Trio, and that's "The Marvelous Toy". The radio stations play it during the holiday season. Me likey.

I highly recommend Mighty Day on Campus. About half the songs on it are humorous in nature (Rum By Gum, Super Skier, Lizzie Borden, Puttin' on Style, and Hang on the Bell, Nellie) but all of them are fine, fine music. I haven't heard (at least intentionally) "The Marvelous Toy" but I suspect that if it's by them, it's good.

"The Marvelous Toy" is a Tom Paxton song, and it's fantastic. I haven't heard the CMT version, but I've heard Paxton's original and Peter, Paul and Mary's version. It's one of those "songs from my childhood" and I love it. :-) If you want to trade songs over IM, I can send you that one (PPM version) and you can send me the one you want to send me.

Of course, the answer is obvious
If you ONLY had a Mac in your house, iTunes would work just fine...and if you can convince my blushing bride to let me buy a new Mac, you can have one of my old ones at a very reasonable price!

Re: Of course, the answer is obvious
Unlike you, your blushing bride is well aware of the upcoming costs involved in your impending parenthood. A new Mac is not exactly high on her agenda, and I would hardly attempt to intrude on your wedded bliss in such a fashion.

Translation: what kind of idiot do you think I am?

Re: Of course, the answer is obvious
Oh, I'm still working on convincing her that I need a new Mac so I can edit video of our soon-to-arrive bundle of joy. I also need a video camera, but that's a small detail.

If only someone would be so kind as to buy my iMac (it's Purple!), I'd be halfway to a G5 tower...well, OK, I could pay for the monitor for a G5 tower. And I still wouldn't have a video camera. But those are details.

As for what kind of idiot you are...well, I'll just step around that mimefield. Or minefield. Whichever's worse.
