This weekend

Since I spent much of Thursday cleaning and the like, there wasn't much to do when I got home on Friday. This was good, as it freed me up for other stuff, like helping in the kitchen. Eeps. I scorched a double boiler of ours...Brillo usage is in my future. We had psu_jedi and caryabend over for dinner, which was lovely as usual.

Saturday I was up in time to make it to Woodside by around 10am. Clearly when I'm not up superearly I need to walk down Georgia rather than through Sligo Creek Park...the walk home took 15 minutes less than the walk there. The rabbi was back from Connecticut, and he expressed thanks at the outpouring of assistance from the community regarding the recent death of his father. It's rare that he speaks personally, so it was good to be there to hear it. I had lunch at Chez Soboroff/Friedrich, an all-veggie lunch to counter my meat-filled-week. Everything was tasty.

It was a large crowd, and when they left I did as well. I got back, cleaned up, and shagged out for a nap. By the time people started coming over, I was awake and functional once more. morganminstrel and blueraccoon were in town, so we had them over, along with their friends Mara and Avi, as well as the aforementioned Ian and Alida (those fine Soboroff/Friedrich folks). Fun was had by all.

I woke up the next morning in time to get a call from my Dad, which I mentioned earlier. We then went to the Maryland RenFest and joined bodnej and his wife Laura. We wandered around, catching a couple of shows and at least walking past all the stalls, if not into all of them. I'm finding that my need for Renaissance-style stuff is decreasing over time. The only things we picked up were catnip for the cat and a ring holder for the upstairs bathroom. Jon wanted to catch the 4pm jousting, but Karen and I were pretty beat by then, so we called it an evening. We went home and I went DVD hunting. I picked up Chicago, which we both enjoyed. We then watched some special features stuff from the LotR Two Towers disc, and then headed to bed.

All in all, a good weekend.

We did lots of housework Sunday -- which is always tough, since we're usually tired from Rocky Horror and other stuff and need Sunday to recover...

I concluded my meat-filled-week with ... more meat!

The Renaissance Festival is more-or-less the same, year in and out, so I don't get that excited over it anymore. How much I enjoy it pretty much boils down to who I'm there with.

Chicago is good. Moulin Rouge, on the other hand, will melt your brain.

My evil plans
I tried to convince morganminstrel and blueraccoon to visit you at Rocky Horror on Saturday night. It would have been nice to boog you, as they are also ptolemy_jones and mari_hata. But sadly their schedule prevented them from doing so...and who knows when they'll both be down here again...

There are times where I really want to make it to RenFest. I'm glad I've gone...gotten it out of my system. Whether or not something momentous will happen when I'm not there is another issue.

Moulin Rouge amused me, and the first hour bored Karen. Then the plot picked up. It's eye candy, but I don't think it has the same replay value as Chicago, which isn't as hard on the eyes.

Re: My evil plans
A week ago, Jeff forgot one of his costume pieces, so for the floorshow he was wearing the red Uhura dress that I had in my trunk...

It's bodnej, not jcbodner, but I forgive you
I'm glad that you guys could join us at RenFest. We ended up not going to the Jousting, either. Instead, we finished our day with a bit of shopping (a phoenix print for the house and a ceramic frog for my frog collection). Then it was off to my mother-in-law's house for dinner and dog pickup.

I was wondering where he got "jcbodner" but I figured I was just wrong.

We were glad we could join you as well. We had a great time. If my tooth hadn't been killing me, I might have been less of a spoiled sport toward the end. But the drugs made me sleepy (while not entirely relieving the pain). So such is life.

If you're still up for apple picking on the 21st, I think it's a go.

Well, jcbodner is my AIM name.

We're probably on for apple picking. Unless we're having the family BBQ, or doing yardwork, or visiting the cemetery pre-High Holidays (or some combination of these three things). I'll let you know.
