a mild evening

After we ran around this evening investigating carpet for the basement, we came home, returned the babysitter, ate dinner, and then repaired to our various computers. Karen's catching up on TV that she downloaded from iTunes, and I'm catching up on LJ. This, for me, presents a rare opportunity to post. Woo hoo I say, woo hoo.

So, reflecting on the last few weeks, it's been busy, and for the most part, good. We had a kickass party on January 29th, celebrating our collective birthdays (but mostly Karen's) and having a few people over. We didn't invite everyone - the house only holds so many, and it got pretty darn full. We'll invite more folks another time. Our birthday week was pretty good altogether; I got nifty gifts from a few people, and according to my brother, more are on the way. Hot damn.

I finally got rid of the cough I'd had since January. And although my back hurt quite a bit, I was able to get past it without having to take time off work and resort to bed rest, as I had in November. I'm even able to do some heavy lifting stuff, assuming I take my time and don't overextend myself. I also edited my friendslist a bit by making a new friends filter, so that I could ignore some of the timewasting stuff that's on my full list. cryptic_posts, for example - I enjoy it, but sometimes there's so much volume that I can't see who's posted, and since my time is so rarely my own, I want to read everything important, not just everything I've friended.

Other than the aforementioned home improvement stuff, it's been the usual level of busy: hanging out with Julian, prepping meals, spending quality time with my sweetie, and the neverending craziness of work. But that's another post for another time, and will be locked so that my words are safe from The Man.

Did you get to meet my crazy ex stepfather or was John there?

No crazy ex-stepfather, no. Just two reasonably sane men.

If you want to get rid of Joel this evening, there's gaming at my house at 7pm. Just FYI.

He has to work really late to meet a deadline, but I know he'd love to be there otherwise.

I am sorry you didn't get to meet the crazy ex stepfather, he's interesting. He is one of the few men I have met who can wear a pinky ring without looking totally gay :)

Happy Be-lated
Hi Seth!

Sorry I missed your birthday this year. Hope it was a good one.

So I want to be the first to wish you a happy birthday for next year.

My birthday was good. Sorry, you're (yes, really) third in line to wish me a happy birthday for next year. I appreciate the sentiment, though. How's things in sunny CA?

Third....really...Hmmm...Then I'm sure I must be the first to wish you a very happy Veteran's Day 2009.

Things are bright in sunny CA. Having a great time, wish you were here.

Re: Happy Be-lated
That is indeed true; happy Veteran's day 2009.

I'm leaving sunny, cool, snowy Maryland for Hartford, CT tomorrow. Luckily, despite what the weather will be there (note to self: check) I'll only be there for a day. Doin' a site visit on a robot...checking out how it's doing and what it does. All part of a day's work. Still, I wish I were there too. *sigh* I'm not fond of the cold, esp. with the heating bills this year. Darn hurricaines.

A robot? Cool! Does it shoot lasers out of its eyes!?

Re: Happy Be-lated
It's pretty cool. It shoots lasers out of its barcode scanner.
