I are smrt

I was at the park yesterday with Julian. No matter how old you are, you're never too old to fall off playground equipment.

Fourteen x-rays later, it seems that I did not break either leg or either ankle. I did sprain my left knee (the one I had surgery on a few years ago) and my right ankle. Hooray! I am big boned!

It's going to take up to 6 weeks to heal, and I have to follow up with an orthopedist. More importantly, I need to now go buy a house without stairs. Stairs suck.

*EDIT* I attempted to descend a large piece of equipment where I am not small enough to slide down the slide. So, I tried to go down the ladder...but ended up putting my foot through where a bar should have been and ended up upside down, hanging by my calves and ankle.

Thanks. I'm already feeling much better, and the swelling has decreased mightily.

Good G-d, what did you fall off of? The monkey bars? Refuah shlema...

I'd post a picture of it if I had one. (goes and looks)

Okay, found it.

All the way in back on the right is a tremendous climbing structure for kids. It has several ladders and two slides and a suspended bridge. I fell off the near side onto a metal ladder I was trying to descend.

It was a literal "thunk", wasn't it?

Pretty much. First came the fall, then the screaming, then the confused Julian, and then a rush of eosinophils to the injury site to cause massive inflammation. All in all, not an experience I recommend. Plus, dammit, I was sober.

Bumbles Bounce.
At least if you were drunk, you'd have an excuse. Although not for being out with Julian while you were drunk.

Reminds me again of how lucky Jim and I et al. were with our late night drunken rock climbing in Massachusetts.

Re: Bumbles Bounce.
Yes. That was why I added the "sober" line to my reply.

The universe must have (or had) plans for you. Otherwise, we never would have met, and one day paleontologists would have dug up your fossilized remains out of the quarry bed. But I digress...

Re: Bumbles Bounce.
According to the man in strange clothing who rescued me, if I died before having my son history would be altered.

Apparently, now that I have a son, I'm expendable. I wonder what Richard is destined to do?

I believe Richard is destined to poop again. Other than that, I couldn't begin to guess...

Oooch. Wish I could cause an elevator to self-install in your house. Quick healing to you.

Much obliged. I'd imagine if there was an elevator package that was installable, you could put it in for me.

I hear you.

When my daughter was 3 or 4, we were at the playground. I was sitting on a piece of playground equipment, and as I got off, I slipped. My leg hit the bar in the same direction. I didn't break anything, but massively bruised the leg from below the ankle to above the knee, so bad they were worried about compartment. Further, I had to fly to Boston in the winter the next day. The NSA would not let me get out of it.

So, I hear you.

May you heal quickly.

These days, the NSA wouldn't want to get sued, so you wouldn't have had to go. Thanks...I seem to, so far, be healing quickly.

Ouch!

Would crutches help you with the stairs? It's not a perfect solution, as you've cleverly damaged joints on both legs, but if you could take the weight off of whichever is worse, or trade off, or something, would that help? It sure beats doing the stairs on your butt.

GOOD HEAVENS NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

The last time he was on crutches (after his knee surgery), he threw his back out and he was out of work for three weeks (in addition to the two weeks that he was out for his knee surgery!).

Back AWAY from the crutches!

(he's really doing FINE on the stairs. He just takes them slowly)
