Day 2 in Florida

Let me preface this by saying that my father-in-law's computer keeps popping up windows. Some of them are from spyware he's downloaded. Some of them are Windows Update windows, telling him that he hasn't loaded any antivirus software. *holds head in hands* I'm afraid I won't be able to work this machine for long, until it explodes. Yikes.

At any rate, I called my brother while I was driving back here tonight. He asked how things were, and I replied, "It's about 75F and 30% humidity." After I said this, he replied, "Fuck you." 8^) Jay misses Florida.

Orlando has really changed since I was here last. Granted, it's been 19 years...and when I was here last, I wasn't driving. I understand tolls...but every 35 feet? This rental car's going to need a brake job when I bring it back, because I'm in a constant state of slowing down! Sheesh. I've considered going back to find the old Cohen family homestead, but I'm realizing that there's too much to do and I don't care enough. Oh, and Longwood isn't well marked on the Orlando map...so the heck with it.

I got in yesterday morning, and went almost immediately from the airport to Leesburg, where we watched a product demo. It was nifty. Then I went to the convention center (it's big) and registered, and then walked back to my car. The walk back to my car took 15 minutes, and I was parked close by. That's how big the convention center is. I came back to the inlaws' house, got the grand tour, had dinner, and watched basketball. Unfortunately, sleep claimed me before the end of the game. However, there was no doubt that Georgia Tech was crushing Georgia, so my sleep was untroubled. 8^) I set the alarm early, and almost got to my Continuing Education seminar on time.

The CE seminars were held adjacent to the convention center in one of the big hotels. That saved me from having to pay to park at the CC again...and I was parked closer than yesterday. I enjoyed the Exhibitors' Center (e.g. the trade show) and got lots of goofy crap. Some cool things too, mind you, but mostly goofy crap. I attended another CE in the afternoon at the CC, and then basically hung out with one of my cow-orkers for the evening. We went to services, and dinner, and I drove him to the supermarket for staples, and then dropped him off at his hotel. He gave me candles, so I'm set for Hanukah.

Then I came back to the inlaws. I've been chilling out, but I won't be up long. There's more CE tomorrow to get, so I need to crash soon. I'll read LJ for a bit and see what's new, I'll give Karen a call, crash, and then I'll be back to the convention tomorrow.

I am actually feeling MUCH better but have a lingering hacking cough which is more annoying than anything, except when I'm trying to sleep or hide it (i.e. in professional settings)

I hope you feel better soon, too. I felt better first thing this morning. Then I must have been turned into Wile E. Coyote, because the Road Runner ran me over with a truck. Bleargh.
