Give 'til it squirts

I just gave blood. For the first time (for me), they let me give two units rather than just one. They pheresed the red cells out and gave me some of my plasma and platelets back, so I'm not more volume depleted than normal. Of course, I can't give again until October, but I think it's darn nifty.

I did that once -- I guess it was a few years ago. I loved it -- it was really cool for the plasma to come back in my body. They told me that you actually leave with more volume than you came with, 'cause they pump in some saline, too.

Ah, yeah. Here we go -- I did a double-red cell donation on September 10, 2003.

Why not since then?
I used to do platelet pheresis. Cool, indeed...the volume of saline and sodium citrate made me so cold I needed a blanket.

Re: Why not since then?
I still donate on a regular basis -- I'm scheduled to donate on Tuesday, actually -- but they haven't asked for a double-red cell donation since then. I guess my blood (Type A) isn't special enough that they want to hoarde it.
