I are smrt

I was at the park yesterday with Julian. No matter how old you are, you're never too old to fall off playground equipment.

Fourteen x-rays later, it seems that I did not break either leg or either ankle. I did sprain my left knee (the one I had surgery on a few years ago) and my right ankle. Hooray! I am big boned!

It's going to take up to 6 weeks to heal, and I have to follow up with an orthopedist. More importantly, I need to now go buy a house without stairs. Stairs suck.

*EDIT* I attempted to descend a large piece of equipment where I am not small enough to slide down the slide. So, I tried to go down the ladder...but ended up putting my foot through where a bar should have been and ended up upside down, hanging by my calves and ankle.

::wince:: Ooops? This is going to make many things difficult, methinks. Heal quickly!

Thanks. I'm already feeling much better, and the swelling has decreased mightily.

Indeedy. Nope, not too much pain. Hooray for Vicodin!

Good G-d, what did you fall off of? The monkey bars? Refuah shlema...

I'd post a picture of it if I had one. (goes and looks)

Okay, found it.

All the way in back on the right is a tremendous climbing structure for kids. It has several ladders and two slides and a suspended bridge. I fell off the near side onto a metal ladder I was trying to descend.

Ouch! How'd that happen?
Jul. 27th, 2008 08:56 pm (UTC)
Gravity. Who woulda thunk it?

Oooch. Wish I could cause an elevator to self-install in your house. Quick healing to you.
Jul. 27th, 2008 08:58 pm (UTC)
Much obliged. I'd imagine if there was an elevator package that was installable, you could put it in for me.

Oh boy, that's terrible. Sorry to hear it. I hope you hve good healing and good drugs.
Jul. 27th, 2008 08:58 pm (UTC)
Thanks. So far, healing is speedy and drugs are moderately decent.

I hear you.

When my daughter was 3 or 4, we were at the playground. I was sitting on a piece of playground equipment, and as I got off, I slipped. My leg hit the bar in the same direction. I didn't break anything, but massively bruised the leg from below the ankle to above the knee, so bad they were worried about compartment. Further, I had to fly to Boston in the winter the next day. The NSA would not let me get out of it.

So, I hear you.

May you heal quickly.
Jul. 27th, 2008 08:59 pm (UTC)
These days, the NSA wouldn't want to get sued, so you wouldn't have had to go. Thanks...I seem to, so far, be healing quickly.
Jul. 27th, 2008 10:11 am (UTC)
Yikes! Feel better soon!!
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:00 pm (UTC)
Much obliged. So far, so good.
Jul. 27th, 2008 10:51 am (UTC)
Ouch! Hope you feel better soon...

Jul. 27th, 2008 09:00 pm (UTC)
Thanks. I am experiencing much improvement. I'm still going to have go give up on my Olympic hopes, though.
Jul. 27th, 2008 11:13 am (UTC)
Oh, ouch! I am sorry to hear that and hope you heal quickly.
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:01 pm (UTC)
Thanks. I sense smooth sailing ahead. Plus, avoiding playgrounds...
Jul. 27th, 2008 11:46 am (UTC)
Refuah shlaimah! (And quickly :-)
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:02 pm (UTC)
Doin' my best, thanks. 8^)
Jul. 27th, 2008 11:51 am (UTC)
Get well soon.
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:02 pm (UTC)
The physical healing won't take long. The mental trauma? The rest of my life, I'm afraid... 8^)
Jul. 27th, 2008 02:53 pm (UTC)
Ouch! Condolences, and I wish you quick healing.
Jul. 27th, 2008 09:03 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I should learn to leave the monkey bars to the monkeys...

Would crutches help you with the stairs? It's not a perfect solution, as you've cleverly damaged joints on both legs, but if you could take the weight off of whichever is worse, or trade off, or something, would that help? It sure beats doing the stairs on your butt.
Jul. 28th, 2008 10:23 am (UTC)

The last time he was on crutches (after his knee surgery), he threw his back out and he was out of work for three weeks (in addition to the two weeks that he was out for his knee surgery!).

Back AWAY from the crutches!

(he's really doing FINE on the stairs. He just takes them slowly)
